Sports Illustrated laid off most of its employees on Friday, leaving the iconic magazine with few remaining staff.
The magazine's owner, Authentic Brands Group, officially revoked the license that allowed the Arena Group to operate the Sports Illustrated brand, according to an email sent to staff. ABG has owned the magazine since 2019 and sold the publishing rights to Arena Group, which has amassed "substantial debt" and missed a recent $3.75 million payment for those rights.
