Elon Musk Rated Lean Right in April 2025 Small Group Editorial Review

A group of AllSides reviewers on the left, center, and right rated Elon Musk as Lean Right in an April 2025 Small Group Editorial Review. However, the panel was not unanimous and each panelist offered very different ratings.

The Lean Right reviewer saw Musk’s views as ideologically mixed, but ultimately agreed that Lean Right was the most accurate rating given the way he is perceived in today’s media and political climate and his alignment with Trump on issues such as immigration and America First. The reviewer noted that Musk could also be seen as Center, citing his support for causes not typically associated with conservatives, such as environmentalism, space innovation, brain–computer interface research, and his children to many women.

The Center reviewer acknowledged Musk’s nontraditional personal positions, noting that beyond making electric cars, he advocates for occupying Mars and implanting neural technology — positions that are pro-technology and capitalist, but not traditionally conservative. The reviewer also pointed to his personal life, including having 14 children with four different women, as diverging from the family values typically associated with the political right. However, the reviewer also noted that his policy positions and recent rhetoric show strong alignment with the MAGA movement, including frequent criticism of the left and amplified concerns about voter fraud and liberal media bias. Considering both Musk’s personal stances and his growing association with MAGA, the reviewer concluded that Lean Right was appropriate.

The Lean Left reviewer argued that Musk is clearly Right, pointing to his financial support for Donald Trump, public praise for what they called “far-right” parties like AfD abroad, and what they saw as a deliberate platforming of reactionary viewpoints on X. This reviewer contended that regardless of Musk’s personal ideology, his actions and messaging overwhelmingly serve right-wing narratives in the current political landscape.

Musk presents a complex political profile, blending traditionally left- and right-leaning positions. Given the diversity of his views and the evolving nature of the political spectrum, reviewers found Lean Right to be the most accurate rating at this time.
