Steve Schmidt Rated Left in May 2025 Independent Review

Schmidt was rated Left in a review by an AlISides bias reviewer in May 2025. The reviewer noted Schmidt writes strongly against President Trump: "The American fascist in the White House is surrounded by a team of incompetents, extremists, sycophants and degenerates that mark all fascist regimes. The American regime is no different." He posted a photo on X of Trump with the words, "100 Days of Fascism" and wrote, "As Trump’s first 100 days reveal cruelty and chaos—from deporting a sick child to damaging the economy—Jim Acosta and I expose the danger of rising authoritarianism and why bold Democratic leadership is essential."

Schmidt wrote, "As Republicans vote to deport U.S. citizens, the nation's values are at stake. I break down the rise of Trump’s cult, GOP enablers, and the Supreme Court’s push for religious extremism."

The reviewer noted that Schmidt founded The Lincoln Project to oppose Donald Trump.

About Steve Schmidt

Schmidt is a founder of The Lincoln Project, a group that was founded to oppose Donald Trump. 

Schmidt previously worked on Republican political campaigns, including for President George W. Bush, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Arizona Senator John McCain during his 2008 presidential campaign.  He became a political analyst for MSNBC in 2011.

Schmidt reportedly "registered as a Democrat after nearly 30 years with the Republican Party," according to The Independent.
