It wasn't even the 3,568-acre Thompson Fire burning close by, forcing 28,000 Butte County residents to evacuate, that threatened his home. It was the Grubbs Fire, which broke out Wednesday a few miles from the Thompson Fire. Just five days earlier, Black had thought his home was lost when another fire — the Apache — ignited near south Oroville and burned onto his property as he and his daughter fled. Firefighters saved the house, but then came the Grubbs Fire. Cal Fire contained the Grubbs Fire at about 8 acres...
