N.Y. weather: Dangerous heat and thunderstorms in weekend forecast

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It’s going to be a hot weekend — with a chance of thunderstorms. Saturday is forecast to bring temperatures with heat indices exceeding 100 degrees. This intense heat has prompted the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a heat advisory ,which will persist from noon through 8 p.m. Saturday. It is the compounded forces of elevated temperatures and humidity that produce such unfavorable conditions which could foster heat illness, the NWS reports.
