French Fire near Mariposa 20% contained as crews make progress

Firefighters continued to make progress battling the French Fire in Mariposa County late Friday, bringing containment up to 20% by Friday night, Cal Fire said. The fire broke out at 6:30 p.m. Thursday just north of the town of Mariposa in a grassy woodland area thick with heavy brush. It moved quickly and prompted evacuation orders over most of the city.
