Who Will Kamala Harris Select as Her 2024 Running Mate?

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly narrowed the list of potential running mates for vice president. Here are the likely contenders.

Josh Shapiro: Governor of Pennsylvania, could help Harris in this battleground state where Shapiro has a 60% approval rate. If selected and elected, Shapiro would be the first Jewish vice president.

Mark Kelly: Senator from Arizona, is a former Navy combat pilot and NASA astronaut who could appeal to voters across the aisle in this swing state. While Kelly's strong border stance may have some appeal to independent and conservative voters, it puts him at odds with the border policies of the Biden administration.

Andy Beshear: Governor of Kentucky, close to Harris and has managed a successful career in a commonwealth that former President Donald Trump carried by 20 points in 2020. Beshear has also given a number of interviews criticizing Trump's vice presidential choice, J.D. Vance, and Vance's opinions on the Appalachia region.

Tim Walz: Governor of Minnesota, served for 12 years in Congress and has garnered national attention for his strategy of calling the Republican ticket "weird." While he may appeal to independent and conservative voters with his Midwestern sensibility and his plainspoken nature, Minnesota is seen by many as less of a swing state.

Pete Buttigieg: The U.S. Secretary of Transportation has the national experience of running for president and is seen by some as one of the White House's better communicators. However, if selected, Bettegeig would face tough questions about how he handled public crises such as the East Palestine train derailment, and the Southwest Airlines scheduling crisis.
